Displays

Pointers and Springfit come together for their first Club Display.

Springfit and Pointers joined together to host their first club display on Sunday 19th July. The event was 80’s themed, with over 150 children turning out in vibrant neon colours and funky hairdos, to show off skills they have been learning at their weekly classes.

Every class at each club had a part to play, as well as a group routine to perform to a classic eighties song. Each of the many proud family members in attendance were treated to a variety of performances, from floor and vault skills to acrobatic and beam routines.
In the first half the younger beginners classes showed particular aptitude in performing for the crowd, displaying great joy and pride in their dances and moves. After the interval, the advanced levels were on show, with their big moves receiving gasps and ovations from the spectators in attendance. Pictured here is Dominic Montgomery, from Pointers, Monday 6:30 Gymnastics, performing a front somersault over the vault and over Coach Chris ' legs.

There was so much happening in the large sports hall, that the gym floor had to be split into two for all the events to fit in, and trampolinists provided somersaulting routines to entertain the crowd during breaks. Everyone was kept entertained and enthralled for the whole show, and had much to say afterwards.

Coaches even joined in the fun, with daring displays and more outrageous costumes. Club manager and announcer for the day, Adam Reynolds, said: “There were smiles everywhere, it was just infections. I really got into some of the routines, and I’ve only seen them from behind the trampolines! I think everyone involved did a great job and I’m very proud of all the coaches at the club.”

Recent Competitions

INTER CLUBS GYMNASTICS

On Sunday 14 th June at de Stafford Sports Centre, Caterham, Saturn V Association of Gymnastics and Trampoline clubs, held their first Floor and Vault Competition of 2009. Much improvement was shown in all gymnasts who performed to their best in both Floor and Vault, and impressed all friends and family who came to show their support.

The standard of competition entry was high and the gymnasts performed with enthusiastic competence. Medals were awarded in three categories, under 9’s, 10 years plus, and a new category for those who train more than once a week.

Pictured left are the medal winners, from back row left, to front row right:
Hannah Bagley (9), Abbie Clifton (10), Harri Nichols (11), Rachna Patel (10), Amber Clifton (13), Maxine Coldrey (9), Jessica Lawes (8),
Dominic Montgomery (10) and Daisy Roadnight (10).

INTER CLUBS TRAMPOLINING

The Saturn V Association showcased their latest trampoline competition held at The Sports Hall at Moor House School in Hurst Green on Saturday 27th June. Member clubs from Caterham, Oxted, Horley, Warlingham, Selsdon and Coulsdon all entered children for the competition.

Parents and family members turned out on a hot day to show their support from the balcony of the Sports Centre as their children from age 6 to 17 put on a fine display in six different ability grades.
All competitors received a certificate of achievement for entering and medals were awarded at each level for high scorers.

There were plenty of entrants who had never done a competition before, and many of them were delighted to walk away with rewards for their endeavours. Among those who turned out for the first time, were gold medallist winners Amber Jackson (6) and Lucy Pidgeon (8), who clearly impressed the panel of judges with their routines.
There was also repeated success for some who won medals at the last event, including Liam Chennery (13), Katie Pidgeon (11), Emily Reeves (7), and Hollie Knight (11).
Hollie won Gold at Grade 8 in February, and matched her achievement in the next category up, taking away gold at Grade 9 this time round.
Hollie attends trampolining classes at Oakwood Sports Centre in Horley, and is pictured above furthest left, along with all the other happy medal winners.
